National Celebration

Beginning February 9, The University of Scranton will host national traveling exhibition “Forever Free: Abraham Lincoln’s Journey to Emancipation,” which details Lincoln’s quest to restore a Union divided by Civil War.
The exhibit will be hosted in the Heritage Room of the University of Scranton’s Weinberg Memorial Library through March 22 and will feature reproductions of rare historical documents and photographs revealing how Lincoln’s beliefs about freeing the slaves were transformed by war-time developments.
The University of Scranton was among the select group of schools chosen to display the exhibit. And on Feb. 14,
in conjunction with the exhibit, the Weinberg Memorial Library will offer a free, one-day conference from 8:30 a.m. until 2 p.m. that will include presentations on Emerson and Lincoln, the Abolitionist Movement in Pennsylvania and the Underground Railroad in Northeastern Pennsylvania, as well as an appearance by Abraham Lincoln, as portrayed by Jim Getty.
